ROLE SUMMARY:

King’s College School, Cascais is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and highly qualified Head of Science & Biology Teacher to lead its expanding science department. In this dual-responsibility role, the successful candidate will split their time between high-impact classroom teaching and departmental leadership:

As Head of Science, you will provide strategic and academic direction across the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics departments. You will mentor a dedicated team of subject specialists, manage cutting-edge laboratory facilities alongside full-time technicians, and align the science curriculum to ensure an inquiry-based, hands-on learning environment.

As a Biology Teacher, you will inspire students from Years 7 to 13, preparing ambitious learners for top examination performance and university admissions by cultivating critical thinking, out-of-the-box scientific problem solving, and a passion for the natural world.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Department Leadership: Lead, manage, and mentor the Science team across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Curriculum Delivery: Oversee the science curriculum progression aligned with Cambridge standards.
Teaching Excellence: Deliver engaging, high-level Biology lessons to secondary students.
Safety & Resources: Manage laboratory safety protocols, equipment, and departmental budgets.
Student Assessment: Track academic progress, manage practical/internal assessments, and prepare students for university admissions.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Biology or a closely related scientific field.
Certification: Recognized formal teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
Experience: Proven track record of teaching secondary Biology, ideally with leadership experience in an international or Cambridge curriculum school.
Skills: Strong subject knowledge, dynamic leadership, and fluent English communication.
