OUR SCHOOL:

Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard is a premium private school in Green Point, Cape Town. Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard offers a balanced, holistic, innovative learning experience, encouraging students to realize their unique gifts, talents and abilities in pursuit of academic excellence. ROLE SUMMARY:

In keeping with the Reddam House philosophy of educating the whole child, the SENCO plays a central role in ensuring that every student is known, supported and enabled to thrive. The SENCO coordinates inclusive, student-centred support systems that promote academic success, emotional wellbeing and personal growth, working in close partnership with students, families, staff and external professionals.

This role reflects Reddam House’s commitment to belonging, care, excellence and giving back, ensuring that all students experience dignity, opportunity and support within a nurturing, high-expectations environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • A relevant degree or recognised professional qualification in education, psychology, counselling or a related field
  • Thorough working knowledge of relevant South African legislation, particularly The Children’s Act 58 of 2005
  • Proven experience working with children, adolescents and their families in an educational or therapeutic context
  • Experience in individual, group and family interventions, including crisis intervention
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting, respectful relationships across diverse backgrounds
  • A professional, compassionate and ethical approach to confidential assessment, mediation and counselling
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team that prioritises student wellbeing and development
  • Willingness and confidence to engage with external professionals and community organisations in support of students
  • Confidence in addressing groups of students, staff and parents
  • Capacity to contribute to professional learning opportunities for staff, when required
  • A well-developed awareness of the social, emotional and mental health challenges facing young people today
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with full computer literacy.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Support students individually and in groups in developing academic, personal and social skills, goals and strategies
  • Monitor student academic performance, behaviour and attendance, and assist in implementing appropriate interventions
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records and provide clear, professional feedback informed by assessment data
  • Ensure the school’s Wellbeing Programme is fully embedded in the daily life and culture of Reddam House
  • Provide individual and group counselling to students with identified needs or concerns
  • Work closely with the SENCO and pastoral team in the planning and facilitation of pastoral meetings, including minutes and follow-up actions
  • Attend grade and phase meetings where students’ social and emotional needs are discussed
  • Supporting student wellbeing, behaviour, attendance and academic engagement
  • Delivering proactive and responsive wellbeing interventions for students and families
  • Maintaining high standards of professionalism, confidentiality and ethical practice
  • Contributing positively to a culture of care, inclusion, belonging and excellence at Reddam House.
