ROLE SUMMARY:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced SENCO to lead the provision for Inclusion at SIS. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing strategic direction and the continuing development of Inclusion provision, monitoring progress and supporting the development of high-achieving classrooms which support and foster the achievement of all pupils.The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader who can develop effective relationships with the school community and external agencies. They will have a positive impact on the inclusive, intercultural ethos of our school and empower students while providing advice, guidance, and training to classroom teachers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the Special Educational Needs provision within the school, ensuring all students with SEN receive appropriate support and accommodations to thrive academically and socially.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff, and external agencies to facilitate collaboration and ensure the holistic well-being of students with SEN.
  • Provide guidance, advice, and training to classroom teachers on effective strategies for supporting students with SEN in the mainstream classroom setting, supporting teachers to adapt schemes of work and implement effective teaching and behavior management approaches in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement policies and procedures that promote equality, diversity, and inclusion across the school.
  • Work closely with the Admissions Team to review documentation, follow up with schools and parents and provide expertise about the best provision for students.
  • Lead the 1:1 student support program for learners with more complex needs.
  • Carry out assessments of pupils to identify needs and monitor progress - including observations in the classroom and meetings with teachers and parents.
  • Work with classroom teachers, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans
  • Make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of the school - this could include psychologists, health and social care providers, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists
  • Track and monitor pupil progress and pathways through written reports and meetings with parents
  • Develop and maintain systems for keeping pupil records, ensuring information is accurate and up to date
  • Lead SEN teachers, teaching assistants and support staff to improve pupil progress and attainment, empowering students to develop strategies for learning and take ownership of their learning journeys
  • Manage access arrangements for assessments and examinations in liaison with DP/MYP coordinators
  • Manage the day-to-day running of the department including budget, resources, meetings, recruitment and staff assessment.
  • Keep up to date with national and local policies related to SEN and cascade information to colleagues

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
  • Significant experience working with students with SEN in an educational setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices in SEN provision.
  • Fluency in English (Spanish language skills desirable).
