This position is advertised on behalf of Parents.

We are currently looking for one-on-one assistants for students in the Middle School.

By definition, an Integration Assistant is meant to serve as an educational assistant, accompanying the student in his/her charge, working with school teams and classroom teachers to enhance the educational experience of the student.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

In terms of specific duties, the Integration Assistant is expected to:
• Promote, monitor and foster all aspects of the student’s development to support the greatest possible success for him/her. Which could include, but not be limited to specialized training (i.e. phonics program, PYP, ABA etc.)
• Develop differentiated lessons, strategies, and tools ahead of time, to accommodate teacher plans, and select best practices to meet the needs of the student.
• Goals and approaches should be established and reviewed by the teacher and Integration Assistant in collaboration, several times during the school year.
• Remember that the classroom/subject teacher is at all times “the lead teacher” for the student.
• Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other integration assistants.
• Determine clear and appropriate lines of communication between himself/herself, the teacher and the parents.
• Report consistently to parents (and, if necessary, to the teacher) on a regular basis about the progress of the student. The means of reporting should be discussed and agreed at the onset.
• Prepare written, informal and formal reports as required by St John’s International School.
• Consult with Learning Support, the Support Team, the School Principal and Assistant Principal on issues related to this position.
• In the event of absence, follow provisions agreed with parents, Integration Assistant and school. These will be outlined and agreed at the outset.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

The Integration Assistant should remember that the reason such support is required for a student is often related to an externally prepared psycho-educational assessment and the recommendations which result from such an assessment. Matters of confidentiality are thus involved regarding the student and/or family and should be highly and strictly upheld.

The school is not party to this arrangement and the Integration Assistant is not, therefore, a contractual member of the school’s staff. People interested in this position will need to be working under a “self-employed” status. A collaboration agreement between the Integration Assistant and the School will be drawn up.

SAFEGUARDING STATEMENT

Safer recruitment practices and pre-employment background checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed.
