ROLE SUMMARY:

Inspired is seeking to appoint a Head of Boarding to join St John's International School in August 2024 on a Full-Time basis.

Are you an inspirational teacher and boarding professional looking for an amazing opportunity in a successful and expanding school? St John’s International School is looking for a candidate to lead our small close knit boarding house community and local boarding staff. This is a full-time residential role with well-appointed accommodation adjacent to the boarding house. The Head of Boarding is responsible for the smooth running of a coeducational boarding house with a capacity for 37 students aged 11-18. The candidate is also expected to teach 12 lessons per week. We welcome applications from exceptional, self-motivated and reflective professionals with the right blend of energy, commitment and experience for this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Foster a supportive, safe, and inclusive environment for boarding students.
  • Ensure high standards of student conduct and discipline within the boarding house.
  • Develop and implement individual plans for students to support their academic and personal growth.
  • Manage and oversee the boarding staff, including rotas, training, and performance reviews.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for parents, maintaining effective communication and addressing concerns.
  • Oversee the health, safety, and wellbeing of all boarding students, including accompanying them to medical appointments when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with child protection, health and safety, and boarding standards.
  • Manage the boarding house budget and maintain accurate records of expenditure.
  • Prepare the boarding house for the beginning and end of each term, including student lists, room allocations, and safety procedures.
  • Support weekend and evening activities to create a well-rounded boarding experience.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

As a qualified teacher and experienced boarding professional, you will be a fluent English speaker, familiar with the International Baccalaureate Programme, passionate about creating a home from home boarding environment, and confident working with students from diverse backgrounds. You will be an excellent communicator and confident with technology, as well as someone who gets on well with colleagues, students and parents. Amongst other things, you’ll be well-organised, have a solutions-oriented mindset and will want to participate fully in the extra-curricular and pastoral aspects of school life. A basic level of French language is helpful, as is being keen to develop your language skills.

  • Demonstrates educational leadership and is a role model to faculty and staff.
  • Expectation of at least five years’ experience with students.
  • Able to set clear expectations and stretching goals.
  • Assessment of student outcomes and feedback to enhance performance.
  • Demonstrated contributions to a positive school environment.
  • University degree in appropriate subject.
  • Certified Teaching Status.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
  • Is a life-long learner.
  • Is committed to putting in additional hours as needed.
