ROLE SUMMARY:

The British College of Gava (BCG) is an IB World School located just 20 minutes from the vibrant city of Barcelona. We are seeking to appoint a passionate and experienced Head of English / English Literature Teacher to join our Secondary school from August 2025.

We are seeking a passionate, highly skilled English Literature teacher with a deep understanding of curriculum development, a flair for leadership, and a commitment to academic excellence. This role is primarily a Head of English position with teaching responsibilities, and the successful candidate will be expected to drive innovation, inspire colleagues, and ensure outstanding student outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the English department, including curriculum planning, team coordination, and raising attainment
Teach English Literature to A-Level and/or IBDP English A level, demonstrating subject mastery
Model outstanding teaching and learning
Drive innovation and high standards across the department
Mentor and support English team members in their professional development
Use data effectively to monitor student progress and inform planning
Collaborate with other department heads and school leadership
Play an active role in the wider school community

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Essential:

Qualified Teacher Status (UK or equivalent)
Minimum of 3 years' experience teaching English Literature at A-Level or IBDP English A (not EAL or second language)
Demonstrated leadership experience or capacity to lead a team
Native-level English speaker
Strong academic background in English or Literature
A student-centred approach and commitment to the school’s values

Desirable:

Experience teaching within the IB programme (specifically English A: Language & Literature or Literature)
Experience leading a department or subject area
Right to work in the EU
Master’s degree or post-graduate qualification in a related field
