ROLE SUMMARY:
We are currently seeking applications for a fixed term, part-time Humanities Teacher to join our incredible secondary team. ACG Parnell College is a co-educational, non-denominational, independent school based in Parnell, Auckland. We cater for students in Years 0-13, delivering the Cambridge Curriculums.
The Humanities Teacher / Tutor at an ACG School plays a vital role in supporting students’ creative and technical development throughout their educational journey. This position involves delivering high‑quality instruction in History, Geography and theology, aligned with the New Zealand curriculum, while fostering problem‑solving, innovation, and hands‑on skills.
The teacher will inspire academic excellence, encourage curiosity, and nurture students’ confidence in both design thinking and practical application. Through engaging, workshop‑based learning, effective assessment practices, and strong pastoral support, the teacher ensures that every student is empowered to reach their full potential—academically, creatively, and personally. The role also contributes actively to the broader school community.
This is a Term 2 and 3 cover position – Part time, teaching days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Curriculum expertise (History, Geography, Theology) — Proven experience planning and delivering engaging units aligned to the New Zealand Curriculum, with accurate assessment and clear records of progress.
- Effective classroom practice — Ability to create a positive, well‑organised learning environment, set purposeful homework/extension tasks, and use varied strategies to support strong academic progress for all learners.
- Assessment & reporting — Skilled in designing valid assessments, moderating standards, providing timely feedback, and communicating progress to students and parents with professionalism.
- EdTech & contemporary pedagogy — Confident integrating technology and modern teaching approaches (e.g., inquiry, design thinking, workshop‑based learning) to build problem‑solving, independence, and curiosity.
- Pastoral care & behaviour management — Consistent, fair, and calm approach as a tutor and classroom teacher; able to provide additional academic/pastoral support and uphold school expectations.
- Collaboration & contribution — Track record of working as a team player—sharing resources, engaging in appraisal/PLD, supporting school events (e.g., Open Days), and contributing positively to the wider school community.

QUALIFICATIONS
- A recognised teaching qualification, such as a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or equivalent.
- Candidate should hold New Zealand Teacher Registration
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Undertake a New Zealand police check prior to commencing the position
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining New Zealand teaching accreditation.
- Assist with duties including break time supervision
- A willingness to attend school events outside regular hours as required (e.g., performances, parent-teacher interviews, etc.).
