ROLE SUMMARY:

The Design Technology Teacher / Tutor at an ACG School plays a vital role in supporting students’ creative and technical development throughout their educational journey. This position involves delivering high‑quality instruction in Design Technology, aligned with the New Zealand curriculum, while fostering problem‑solving, innovation, and hands‑on skills.

 

The teacher will inspire academic excellence, encourage curiosity, and nurture students’ confidence in both design thinking and practical application. Through engaging, workshop‑based learning, effective assessment practices, and strong pastoral support, the teacher ensures that every student is empowered to reach their full potential—academically, creatively, and personally. The role also contributes actively to the broader school community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver high‑quality teaching and assessment aligned with College policies and schemes of work.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date subject knowledge and engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Use educational technology effectively to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Create a positive, organised, and productive classroom environment.
  • Prepare lesson materials, resources, assessments, and maintain accurate student records.
  • Provide meaningful feedback, set appropriate homework, and support continued learning.
  • Support strong academic progress for all students and manage behaviour consistently.
  • Motivate students, foster independent study skills, and offer additional academic/pastoral support.
  • Communicate professionally with parents and complete required documentation and administrative tasks.
  • Fulfil tutor responsibilities and contribute to wider school events such as Open Days.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Strong capability in technical drawing, including visual communication and design documentation.
  • Competency in health and safety within a practical workshop environment, ensuring safe and compliant teaching practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate and supervise the safe use of tools and machinery, including hand tools, band saws, and laser cutters.
  • Experience with the Cambridge curriculum is advantageous, though not essential.
  • The role includes teaching a small component of Middle School Art, requiring versatility and creative teaching skills across related disciplines.
