ROLE SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking applications for a fixed term, part-time English/Speech & Drama Teacher to join our incredible team. Located in the heart of Auckland, ACG Parnell is the leading independent school renowned for academic excellence, outstanding pastoral care, and exceptional Cambridge results.  With over 50 diverse sports, arts, and cultural activities, our students can cultivate their talents, thrive academically and grow into well-rounded individuals.

 

With Middle School teaching of English, Speech and Drama experience, you will deliver motivational and differentiated lessons that cater for students' individual needs. The successful applicant will enjoy working as a part of a supportive team and be a collaborative team player who contributes positively to the wider life of the school and is committed to supporting student learning, wellbeing, and achievement.

 

Join us in providing a holistic learning experience that builds strong foundations in literacy and collaborative learning. This is a fixed term, part-time contract (0.8 over 5 days) for Term 4 cover.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver engaging, high-quality teaching and assessment programs aligned with curriculum and college standards.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment that supports student success.
  • Inspire and motivate students to achieve their academic potential and develop independent learning skills.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, maintaining accurate academic records.
  • Prepare effective lesson resources, assessments, homework, projects, and extension activities.
  • Integrate educational technology to enhance teaching, learning, and student engagement.
  • Provide academic and pastoral support to students, including tutor group responsibilities.
  • Build strong relationships and communicate professionally with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through ongoing learning, development, and performance review processes.
  • Contribute to the wider school community through participation in events, open days, and college activities.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Curriculum expertise: Proven experience planning and delivering engaging units.
  • Effective classroom practice: Ability to create a positive, well-organised learning environment, set purposeful homework and extension tasks, and use varied strategies to support strong academic progress for all learners.
  • Assessment & reporting: Skilled in designing valid assessments, moderating standards, providing timely feedback, and communicating progress to students and parents with professionalism.
  • EdTech & contemporary pedagogy: Confident integrating technology and modern teaching approaches to build problem-solving, independence, and curiosity.
  • Pastoral care & behaviour management: Consistent, fair, and calm approach as a tutor and classroom teacher; able to provide additional academic and pastoral support and uphold school expectations.
  • Collaboration & contribution: Track record of working as a team player, sharing resources, engaging in appraisal, supporting school events (e.g. Open Days), and contributing positively to the wider school community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A recognised teaching qualification.
  • Accreditation with New Zealand Teaching Council Registration.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prepared to undertake a New Zealand Police Vetting check prior to commencing the position.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining New Zealand teaching accreditation.
  • Provide lunch and playground supervision duties.
  • Willingness to attend school events outside regular hours as required (e.g. performances, parent-teacher interviews, etc.).
