KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Source and procure chemicals, equipment, and laboratory supplies as required.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of restricted and prohibited substances in schools and provide guidance to Science staff on their appropriate and safe use.
  • Prepare equipment, materials, and resources for practical lessons and experiments.
  • Maintain accurate records and inventory of all chemicals, equipment, and laboratory resources.
  • Ensure the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and equipment in accordance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all laboratory safety signage is current, visible, and appropriately displayed.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory safety systems, equipment, and emergency procedures to ensure their effectiveness.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and well-presented laboratory and preparation room environment.
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs of laboratory equipment.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by the Principal or delegated supervisor.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and practical experiment preparation.
  • Understanding of chemical handling, storage, and disposal requirements.
  • Sound knowledge of laboratory health, safety, and risk management practices.
  • Ability to maintain accurate inventories, records, and chemical registers.
  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing laboratory equipment.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining safe laboratory environments.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to support staff and students.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory inventory systems.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems proactively, and contribute positively to a school community.
