The Librarian and Study Centre Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the ACG Strathallan Library and for supervising the library as a study centre for senior students during the school day.


The library serves students from Year 7 to Year 13 and provides a welcoming and well-resourced environment that supports reading, research and learning. During scheduled study periods, the library also operates as a supervised study space for senior students, and the role plays an important part in maintaining a calm, structured and productive environment that supports independent learning.


The Librarian supports students and staff with access to information and resources, promotes reading across the school community, and ensures the library operates as an effective learning space.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Library Management

  • Maintain an organised, welcoming and well‑resourced library, ensuring accurate records, stocktakes, tidy displays and well‑presented shelving.
  • Manage circulation, cataloguing, purchasing and processing of resources efficiently and within budget.


Supporting Teaching and Learning

  • Assist students and staff in accessing physical and digital resources while supporting research, referencing, academic integrity and digital literacy.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to support curriculum‑related research, class visits and resource needs.


Promoting Reading and Engagement

  • Create engaging displays, initiatives and events that promote reading and support all levels of readers
  • Lead whole‑school literacy initiatives, including major events such as Book Week.


Study Centre Supervision

  • Supervise senior students during study periods, maintaining a calm, focused and respectful learning environment.
  • Monitor behaviour, uphold expectations and provide support for independent study and study leader coordination.


School Contribution

  • Supervise the Library Homework Club each afternoon.
  • Assist with Open Days, school events and wider school initiatives as required.


Housekeeping and Administration

  • Maintain a tidy, organised library, ensuring accurate processing of loans, returns and the upkeep of resources.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting for library computers and equipment, and support general administrative tasks.


General Responsibilities

  • Ensure the library remains a safe, orderly and productive learning environment at all times.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism and service, including supervision of senior students and undertaking additional duties as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Experience working in a school or community library, with confidence managing collections, cataloguing, and circulation systems.
  • Strong digital and information literacy skills, including the use of e‑books, databases, research tools, and the ability to guide students in evaluating sources.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • High-level organisation and attention to detail, ensuring accurate records, tidy spaces, and efficient resource management.
  • Competence with library and digital technologies, such as library management software, digital catalogues, basic IT troubleshooting, and printers/devices.
  • A passion for reading and youth engagement, with creative ideas for promoting literature and encouraging both enthusiastic and reluctant readers.
  • Experience supporting teaching and learning, including helping students with research skills, referencing, and academic integrity.
  • A proactive, student‑centred mindset, with the ability to identify improvement opportunities, work independently, and contribute positively to school culture.
