ROLE SUMMARY:

ACG Sunderland is an established co-educational, secular premium independent school based in Henderson, West Auckland. Set on 9 acres it delivers a premium Cambridge curriculum education to students in Years 0-13 in a supportive environment where each child is encouraged and challenged to reach their full academic and personal potential. A rare opportunity has arisen to join our established Senior Leadership Team in leading our high performing Primary school for the start of Term 3.

The Head of Primary will strategically lead the school to achieve the vision set out by the Campus Principal, the Inspired Group and the wider school community. This will involve building and maintaining positive working relationships with all members of the staff, parent and student bodies. They will lead by example, holding and articulating clear values and moral purpose with a clear focus on ensuring excellence for the students at the school. Under the direction of the Principal, they will also ensure that best practice is maintained and take a role in leading on the operational, academic and pastoral arrangements of the school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the overall achievement, welfare, and safety of students within their remit.
  • Direct planning activities and implement programmes to ensure the attainment of the school’s mission.
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and evaluate the performance of faculty and staff. Provide coaching and opportunities for development.
  • Foster collegiality and team-building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in decision-making processes. Assign academic, advisory, and administrative tasks.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Contribute to the formulation of the school’s strategic plans and direct day-to-day operation of the school programmes.
  • Confer and consult with parents regarding student performance, behaviour, and alternative problem solutions.
  • Develop and administer budgets to ensure that operations are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.
  • Plan professional development activities.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Actively participate in Senior Leadership Team and other administrative meetings.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Previous Experience in a Primary School leadership position
  • Ability to set clear expectations and stretching goals
  • Adaptable and engaging teaching style incorporating feedback
  • Ability to judge learning effectiveness
  • Excellent preparation and planning
  • Assessment of student outcomes and feedback to enhance performance
  • Interest in curriculum development
  • Genuine care and attention for the highest standards of student welfare
