ROLE SUMMARY:

This role plays a critical role in shaping a cohesive, student-centred school culture where wellbeing, leadership, and engagement are intentionally aligned to improve outcomes for all learners. Through a proactive and data-informed approach to pastoral care, the role ensures every student is known, supported, and empowered to achieve both academically and personally.

 

By strengthening the capability and alignment of the Pastoral Leadership Team, the role drives consistency, shared accountability, and excellence in student care across the College. It also fosters a strong student voice by developing authentic leadership opportunities, enabling students to actively contribute to school life and decision-making.

 

In addition, the role enhances the breadth and quality of the student experience by advancing experiential education opportunities that build resilience and character beyond the classroom. Clear and strategic communication further underpins this work, ensuring strong engagement with staff, students, and parents while reinforcing the College’s vision, values, and strategic priorities.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and implement student wellbeing, pastoral care, and child protection practices in line with best practice.
  • Embed school values and the Student Code of Conduct across all areas of school life.
  • Oversee tutor programmes, reporting processes, class placements, and student support services.
  • Lead and support the Pastoral Leadership Team to prioritise student wellbeing and safety.
  • Guide Deans and Heads of House to ensure consistent expectations for learning and behaviour.
  • Develop and oversee student leadership programmes, including the Prefect Team.
  • Promote meaningful student voice and leadership opportunities that enhance school culture.
  • Manage experiential education programmes (trips, camps, expeditions) with strong safety and risk practices.
  • Oversee school communications, including newsletters, social media, and key publications.
  • Fulfil general leadership and EHS responsibilities, including staff support, compliance, safety, and strategic initiatives.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven leadership of pastoral and wellbeing teams, ensuring alignment, consistency, and accountability.
  • Strong expertise in student wellbeing, pastoral care, and child protection, including compliance requirements.Skilled in using data-informed practices to improve student engagement, wellbeing, and achievement.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement with staff, students, and parents.
  • Experience designing and leading student leadership programmes that enhance voice and participation.
  • Capability in planning and delivering co-curricular and experiential programmes (camps, trips, expeditions).
  • Solid understanding of risk management, safeguarding, and health and safety (EHS) in schools.
  • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, values-driven school culture.
  • Strong organisational and programme management skills across school-wide initiatives.
  • Relevant leadership experience in secondary or similar educational settings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., Bachelor of Education or equivalent).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Educational Leadership or related field (preferred).

  • Willingness to contribute to co-curricular programmes and school events beyond standard hours.
