ROLE SUMMARY:

King's College, The British School of Alicante, one of the most sought after British Schools in Spain, is seeking to appoint an inspiring, committed and passionate professional as a Head of Physical Education from January 2025 (or sooner)

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join an outstanding school as we continue to develop our education offering. The Head of PE will be an exceptional practitioner able to teach GCSE PE and IBDP Sports, Exercise and Health Science to Higher Level and will understand the importance of physical education in a through-school setting.  

They will also provide continual and unwavering support to the Executive Headteacher, Heads of Section (Secondary and Primary) and their leadership teams in all aspects of school life, with a particular focus on continuing to develop outstanding sporting and enrichment opportunities from Nursery to Year 13. They will embody the Group and School vision, leading strategically to ensure its realisation in the college while building and maintaining positive working relationships with all members of the school community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be an active member of the school’s leadership team including: contributing to the development of the school’s aims and objectives; working towards the achievements of those aims; evaluating the impact of the school’s work; whole school quality assurance; professional completion of all tasks agreed by the Head of Section (Secondary and Primary)
  • Assume an additional whole school responsibility role for the organisation and ongoing management of Enrichment in Years 5-8 as well as liaising with other schools to manage an interschool sports league.
  • Be accountable for the quality of teaching and learning  in your faculty; ensure that all LTPs and SOW are updated appropriately and are regularly revisited throughout the academic year for team reflection and moderation purposes; annually update learner statements where appropriate; QA assessments and ensure they are robust, fit for purpose and intrinsically linked to SOW; curriculum content is relevant and engaging for the cohort in front of you;  ensure appropriate cycle tests are in place to meet the Inspired guidelines and are expeditiously marked and reported to both pupils and appropriate staff members; quality assure the quality of written reports to parents.
  • Be fully accountable for the progress and performance of all pupils under your supervision; work with subject teachers to ensure pupils are working beyond target grades and offer intervention, support and escalation to deal with pupils who are failing to meet the necessary standards being proactive in escalating pupils to the appropriate Head of Year or AHT; 
  •  To fulfil teaching responsibilities as required. The post holder must be adaptable and open to the delivery of classes outside of his/her area of expertise or age range to support the smooth running of the school; including at IB DP level 

     

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Essential

  • At least four year’s teaching experience (may include ECT years), preferably in a British Curriculum school
  • Experience of successful leadership of pupils in the classroom with demonstrable impact on pupil outcomes and experiences
  • Experience of delivering high quality teaching and learning experiences for pupils based on the principles of QFT
  • Experience of dealing with a range of abilities and devising courses and assessments to stretch and challenge all pupils
  • Experience of reviewing pupil needs and developing areas of the Curriculum accordingly  in line with the UK Government’s recommendations and guidance

 

Desirable

  • Experience of leading a significant faculty based project or series of projects
  • Experience of leading a whole college team, implementing QA procedures and holding teachers to account for the quality of their work and an understanding of how to improve performance in teaching staff
  • Experience of contributing to CPD and a willingness to devise development strategies and policies linked to school improvement
