Part-time Portuguese Teacher

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Part-Time Portuguese Teacher will be responsible for delivering dynamic and engaging Portuguese language lessons for students at Altair School. This role involves teaching approximately 4.5 hours per week and focuses on developing students’ linguistic, cultural, and communicative competencies in Portuguese.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and deliver Portuguese language lessons that engage, motivate, and challenge students.
• Develop students’ proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Portuguese, while fostering an appreciation of Lusophone culture.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to suit varying levels of ability and age groups.
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and cultural curiosity.
• Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and assessment results.
• Collaborate with the Head of Department and other teachers to ensure alignment within the Languages curriculum.
• Support school events, language initiatives, or cultural activities that promote international-mindedness.
• Uphold the values, professionalism, and educational standards of Altair and Inspired Education.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• A degree in Portuguese Language, Education, or a related field.
• Native or near-native proficiency in Portuguese.
• Previous teaching experience, preferably in international or bilingual schools.
• Familiarity with IB programmes (PYP, MYP, or DP) is an advantage.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to inspire students and create engaging, interactive lessons.
• Organizational skills and reliability, with the flexibility required for part-time teaching.
